Got fully vaccinated against COVID-19 overseas? Here’s how to get your digital vaccine certificate in Malaysia

As Malaysia gradually reopens the economy, most premises are now required to verify a person’s full vaccination status through the MySejahtera app. For foreigners or returning Malaysians that have completed their COVID-19 vaccination overseas, here’s how you can get a digital vaccine certificate for your MySejahtera account.

According to the special committee on ensuring access to COVID-19 vaccines (JKJAV), individuals who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 outside of Malaysia can apply for their digital certificate at their nearest District Health Office (PKD). You will need to submit evidence of full vaccination and this may include a physical vaccination card or a digital certificate that was issued by another country.

After your vaccination details have been verified, the Health Office will submit the request to the State Health Department. They will then submit the necessary information to MySejahtera to issue the digital vaccine certificate for you. You can find the list of nearest District Health Office here.

For returning Malaysians or individuals from overseas that are partially vaccinated, you can also apply to get your second dose in Malaysia at your nearest District Health Office. Proof of vaccination is also required and you are urged to call in.

As reported yesterday, Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Minister Dr Adham Baba said “Regardless of the nationality or foreigner, most importantly, we want to confirm whether the vaccination certificate issued abroad was genuine or not and to find out the type of vaccine received.” He also said that incoming individuals who have been vaccinated would have their vaccination certificate checked and validated by health officials at the country’s entry points.

At the moment, Malaysia is administering Pfizer, Sinovac, AstraZeneca and CanSino COVID-19 vaccines under the National Immunisation Programme. The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) has also given conditional approval for Sinopharm and Moderna vaccines which can be offered through the private market. Take note that you’re only counted as fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving your 2nd shot of a two-dose vaccine such as Pfizer, Sinovac and AstraZeneca. For individuals that have gotten a single-dose vaccine such as CanSino or Johnson & Johnson, you are considered fully vaccinated 28 days after getting the injection.
