Segway’s new robot can mow your lawn without a boundary wire, starting at about RM5,900

Segway, the company famously known for its two-wheeled transporter, just announced its new line of robots: the Navimow. This series includes the Navimow H500E, H800E, H1500E, and H3000E, each number corresponding to the number of square meters it’s designed for.

In terms of specs, these robots have a cutting height of up to 60mm, a cutting width of 210mm, and has IPX6 water resistance.

The Navimow actually uses GPS and sensors to navigate through the lawn. This technology isn’t exactly new, but the real innovation here is that it does not require a boundary wire (also known as a perimeter wire). This wire is normally needed for the robot to know what area it needs to work in. Virtually every robot lawn mower requires one, and the ones that do are either too expensive or hard to acquire. The Navimov is the first of its kind to be (relatively) affordable.

Using all of its sensors, the Navimow’s Exact Fusion Locating System (EFLS) keeps its location accurate within two centimeters and will act as a virtual boundary wire.

With the dedicated smartphone app, users can specify the desired mowing area and even exclude specific areas that you want it to avoid. The path it follows is generated so as to be efficient and systematic.

If your lawn is bumpy or steep, the Navimow can handle slopes of up to 45 degrees, so you won’t have to worry about its movement ability. It runs at a volume of 54 dB, which is about as loud as a typical conversation at home.

To ensure the safety of small creatures or objects, the Navimow has five different safety sensors to rely on, including a bump sensor and an ultrasonic sensor. The robot will automatically avoid obstacles and its Blade Halt technology will activate if anything gets too close.
