Samsung Malaysia Electronics and Maybank have officially enabled Maybank MAE QR Payment within Samsung Wallet in Malaysia.
With this new integration, it is now easier to make DuitNow QR payments on Samsung devices while earning Samsung Rewards Points for every transaction.
What initially surfaced as an early leak in Galaxy A27 5G promotional materials has now culminated in an official rollout that began on 21st July 2026. The partnership combines Samsung’s mobile interface with Maybank’s digital banking network, streamlining daily transactions for Galaxy users nationwide.

Highlighting the vision behind the collaboration, Charles Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics, said “Our partnership with Maybank represents a significant step forward in expanding the Samsung Wallet ecosystem in Malaysia. By bringing QR payments directly into Samsung Wallet, we’re making everyday transactions even more effortless, allowing users to simply swipe, scan and pay within seconds.”
Two-Way QR & Cross-Border Payments
The integration cuts down the multi-step chore of opening a banking app by allowing users to swipe up directly from the lock screen, home screen, or screen-off state to trigger Samsung Wallet.
The feature supports two-way functionality, enabling users to either scan a merchant’s standee or display a “Show QR” code for merchants to scan.
Beyond nationwide DuitNow QR compatibility across Malaysia, the integration also supports regional cross-border QR payments. Users can make native QR payments while traveling in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia.
Reaffirming Maybank’s commitment to seamless digital financial journeys, Group Chief Digital Officer Kalyani Nair noted that integrating MAE Scan & Pay directly into Samsung Wallet aligns with the bank’s ROAR30 strategy to deliver frictionless, everyday payment convenience directly to customers’ fingertips.
RM500,000 Promo Pool & Double-Dip Rewards
To mark the official rollout, Samsung and Maybank are running a promotional campaign from 28th July to 30th October 2026 featuring a RM500,000 reward pool. Users can get an instant RM5 bonus upon linking and activating MAE QR Payment inside Samsung Wallet, plus up to RM15 in cashback or vouchers when spending through the feature. Every transaction also stacks Samsung Rewards Points on top of standard Maybank perks.
To enable QR payment, update Samsung Wallet to version 6.6.69 or newer via the Galaxy Store. Once updated, open the app, navigate to Quick Access, select QR Payment, and follow the on-screen prompts to link your active Maybank MAE account.
Phased Rollout & Limited Device Compatibility
However, access to the feature appears to be deploying on a phased, step-by-step basis rather than a simultaneous global update. In our own testing, we noticed that QR Payment is currently limited to specific phone models and software builds.
For example, our experimentation revealed that it isn’t available on our Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 which is still on Samsung Wallet version 6.6.54.
Users who do not see the option immediately may need to wait as Samsung continues expanding compatibility across more devices in upcoming software phases.
ShopeePay Spotting Points to Broader eWallet Ambitions

Interestingly, local user posts on social media platforms like Threads revealed ShopeePay appearing within the Samsung Wallet interface alongside MAE.
This indicates that Samsung will continue to add more QR Payment options beyond traditional banks.
Not Samsung’s First QR Venture
Back in 2020, Boost eWallet became the first eWallet integrated into Samsung Pay, before the feature was dropped in late 2021.
The new Maybank MAE integration represents a significantly broader return for native QR payments on the platform, backed by both national DuitNow standards and regional cross-border support.
Samsung Pay Usage Expands Beyond Card Payments
While NFC tap-to-pay is widely accepted at major retail chains, QR payment remains the dominant payment method across Malaysia, supported by over 3,000,000 merchants nationwide, from night market hawkers to local small businesses. Integrating Maybank MAE allows Samsung Wallet to expand significantly beyond traditional card-based transactions and align directly with everyday local spending habits.
Furthermore, featuring this integration alongside mid-range models like the Galaxy A27 5G indicates that Samsung is rolling the feature out across its broader lineup, bringing contactless QR convenience to all price segments rather than keeping it exclusive to flagship devices.
