How to force Waze to navigate through WCE Highway?

For those travelling up north, the West Coast Expressway (WCE) serves as an alternative route from the Klang Valley towards Taiping Selatan. With mostly flat terrain, taking the trip via WCE could be more efficient and time saving as it bypasses the notorious Menora Tunnel stretch.

However in most cases, Waze would typically recommend the usual route through the North South Expressway (PLUS).

If you’re interested to give WCE a try this coming balik kampung season, here’s how you can get onto WCE and how to ensure that your Waze navigates through this new highway.

How to enter WCE from the Klang Valley

If you’re coming from Kuala Lumpur, you can enter WCE at Rawang Selatan exit on PLUS highway and then continue your journey on LATAR towards Jalan Kuala Selangor – Teluk Intan. This route will include stretches of federal roads before you reach the toll section of WCE at Hutan Melintang.

For those coming from Petaling Jaya, Subang, Seremban or from southern states, you can enter via ELITE/NKVE as shown above, and then enter WCE via Bandar Bukit Raja (Selatan). Between Assam Jawa and Hutan Melintang, you’ll have to go through stretches of federal roads since Section 7 of WCE (Assam Jawa to Tanjung Karang) is not open yet.

How to force Waze to use WCE?

To ensure that your navigation goes through WCE when you’re heading up north, just launch Waze and set your destination (e.g. Taiping, Georgetown, Alor Setar, etc). When you are shown the route option, select E32 WCE as the preferred route.

If you can’t find WCE or prefer to force Waze to stick to WCE, here’s another trick.

On Waze, search for Pejabat Pengurusan WCE Perak (Waze Link) and then tap Go. Next, tap on “Add to stop“.

With WCE’s Perak office set as the mid-point stop, Waze should stick to WCE as the preferred route for your journey. Note that this stop is added as a reference point for navigation purpose only and you can continue on with your journey until your destination.

How to get on WCE Southbound from Penang?

For those travelling southbound and want to get on WCE, you can exit at Changkat Jering on PLUS highway. Just take note of the Cangkat Jering/Taiping/Beruas exit sign (Exit 146) and stay on the far left lane as you approach the location.

As always, drive safe and have a safe Balik Kampung trip.
