Tesla Malaysia official launch is all set at Pavilion KL. Here’s how to catch it live

The grand launch of Tesla Malaysia is happening tomorrow, 20th July 2023 and they have already set up their stage at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in Bukit Bintang. This is also the venue to get up close with the Tesla Model Y which has an insane starting price of just RM199,000.

If you want to catch the event live, Tesla Malaysia’s official Instagram account has indicated that the live stream is happening at 11:00am tomorrow morning. We expect Tesla to provide further details about its network of showrooms, service centres as well as its plans to expand the Supercharging network in Malaysia. After the launch event, we expect the floor to be opened to the public throughout the weekend.

If you’re hoping to get yourself the Tesla Model 3 sedan in Malaysia, it looks like it won’t be launching in Malaysia anytime soon. Based on the displays and promo materials at Pavilion KL, it seems that only the Tesla Model Y is making its debut in Malaysia. After all, Tesla is expected to release its updated version of the Model 3 that’s called Project Highland.

If you’re looking for a new Tesla with an official local warranty, the Tesla Model Y RWD is priced at RM199,000 while the AWD Long Range model with 533km of range is going for RM246,000. The highest AWD Performance model that can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h is going for RM288,000. Bookings are now open and the Model Y deliveries are only expected to start in early 2024.

Besides selling electric vehicles, Tesla is also deploying its Supercharger network in Malaysia which provides a seamless fast charging experience for Tesla vehicles. The first Tesla Supercharger is spotted at Pavilion KL at Level B1 which comes with a total of 8 DC fast charging bays. According to Tesla, its Supercharger stations can provide up to 270km of range with a quick 15-minute charge.

Under MITI’s Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Global Leaders program, Tesla is required to install at least 50 units of 180kW DC fast chargers within 3 years and 30% of them must be accessible by other EV brands. Tesla has revealed 10 Supercharger locations which are scattered around the Klang Valley, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Perak.
