Eligible youths in Malaysia will soon receive their RM200 eWallet credit under the eTunai Belia Rahmah program. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed during Minister’s Question Time in Parliament that the RM200 credit to youths will be disbursed before the third week of this month. This means eligible youths could be getting their credit as early as the end of this week.
Besides the RM200 eWallet credit, the government will also disburse the third phase of Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) for eligible B40 recipients before the Aidiladha celebration. Anwar said the allocation involved over RM2 billion in funds which will benefit 8 million beneficiaries nationwide. A total of RM3 billion have been allocated to the previous first and second phase of STR which benefited 8.7 million beneficiaries, as well as special financial assistance to 1.3 million civil servants and over 1 million retirees.
The RM200 eWallet program for youths was announced during the tabling of the revised Budget 2023. At the time, it was only for youths aged 18-20 years old and the RM400 million allocation is aimed at benefiting 2 million individuals. The eWallet programme has been updated to include university students as per the original budget announced during the previous administration.
Who is eligible for RM200 eTunai Belia Rahmah?
According to the Ministry of Finance, the eTunai Belia Rahmah eWallet initiative is offered to Malaysians aged 18 to 20 years old as of 2023. The programme is also open to all active full-time students in institutions of higher learning in Malaysia as listed below:
- Community Colleges
- Polytechnic
- Public University(UA) /Public Institution of Higher Education (IPTA)
- Private Institution of Higher Education (IPTS)
- Students of education institutions equivalent to Form 6
- Senior Middle 3
- Higher Religious Certificate (STAM)
- Vocational College DIploma
- Diploma and equivalent of TVET
- Foundation Studies / A-Level Foundation
- International Baccalaureate Diploma
- Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) Diploma
- Advanced Diploma
- Bachelor and equivalent
- Masters and equivalent
- Doctor of Philosophy and equivalent
- Professional courses at diploma level and above, recognised by the Government or Professional Bodies in Malaysia
eTunai Belia Rahmah supported eWallets to be announced soon
At the moment, the Ministry of Finance has yet to provide further details of the eTunai Belia Rahmah programme including the list of eligible eWallets. It is likely that the programme will support most major eWallets such as Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Grab, Boost, BigPay and ShopeePay.
Last year, eligible Youths received RM150 eWallet credit under the ePemula programme. For the ePemula programme, the credit is meant only for physical store transactions and it can’t be used for toll, parking, in-app and online payments. Grab was also called out for converting the RM150 ePemula credit into multiple vouchers which adds a layer of restrictions for users. Before redeeming your credit, do take note of the terms and conditions as you can only redeem once with your eWallet of choice.
