Astro has announced that they are expanding their suit of streaming services with the inclusion of Viu to its platform. This means that Astro customers with the Ultra Box can now access Viu on multiple devices to enjoy a host of popular Asian shows such as K-dramas, Thai and Indonesian series as well as Viu Originals.
To commemorate the partnership, Astro will also be giving all of its Ultra Box customers free access to Viu Premium from now till the 8th of June 2023—this promotion will be available to all existing and new Astro Ultra Box customers. You’ll be able to access Viu from either the Ultra Box or the Viu mobile app. Once the free trial is over though, Viu Premium will cost you RM14.90/month, though Astro says that there will be an exclusive offer after the 8th of June for customers who want to continue to access Viu Premium can do so by adding it to their Astro subscription.
If you’re already an Astro Ultra Box user who wants to try out Viu Premium for yourself, here’s how you can do so. Simply press the Home button on your Astro remote, head to the Apps section and select Viu. There, you’ll see a notification telling you about the free trial for Viu Premium; you’ll need to choose to either pair an existing Viu ID or select Maybe Later. Once that’s done, you’re ready to enjoy all the content available on Viu on your Ultra Box.
Alternatively, you can also use Viu on a browser or the mobile app by pairing your account with your Astro subscription. Astro also adds that non-Ultra Box customers who would like to redeem the free trial may upgrade to the Ultra Box by contacting Astro customer service at 03-9543 3838.
“As the latest addition to our new Astro platform, Viu will add a further depth and breadth of content for our customers who currently have access to over 90k shows on demand as well as 8 premium apps.
Together with the best live international and local sports, Astro Originals hits, premium international and regional shows and everyone’s favourite Astro signatures, we are confident that Viu will reinforce Astro’s position as the entertainment destination for Malaysians with its extensive Korean drama and original series,” – Agnes Rozario, Astro Director of Content
This is just the latest to Astro’s already expansive line up of streaming services, which currently include Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, HBO GO, BBC Player, TVBAnywhere+ and beIN SPORTS CONNECT. Astro is also teasing the arrival of more streaming services to their platform, such as the Indian video-on-demand subscription service Zee5.
