Tune Talk has introduced its new Pek Jimat prepaid plans which aim to help consumers reduce their living expenses. Priced from RM33/month, the new Pek Jimat prepaid plans offer “unlimited” data and it appears to replace the previous Tune Talk Hi Value or Cun Value options.
There are a total of 3 “unlimited” plans on offer which comes with unlimited calls to all networks. The only difference is the actual speed cap and the amount of hotspot you can use. The base Fokus 33 option is advertised with a starting price of RM33/month which gives you up to 6Mbps of “unlimited” data, unlimited calls to all networks and 4GB of hotspot usage. If you need higher speeds and more hotspot data, there’s Fokus 40 which starts from RM40/month. The Fokus 40 option provides “unlimited” data that’s speed capped up to 12Mbps, unlimited calls and 6GB of hotspot.
For less restrictions, the highest Bebas 55 costs RM55/month and it offers a higher speed cap of up to 18Mbps, unlimited calls as well as unlimited hotspot. Overall, it sound like a good deal but here are three things you need to know before signing up.
Faster speeds only from 9am to 5pm
While most “Unlimited” prepaid plans under RM40/month typically come with a slower 3Mbps speed cap, Tune Talk’s Pek Jimat seems to offer better value as it is offering double the speed. But if you look closely, the higher 6Mbps or 12Mbps speeds for Fokus 33 and 40 plans respectively are only available from 9am to 5pm daily. Beyond those hours, your “unlimited” speed will be throttled down by half.
However, it is stated that the highest Bebas 55 is offering 18Mbps all-day, which is something you should expect if you’re paying a higher premium.
Advertised price applicable only if you sign up for 12 months
Another thing to take note of is that the advertised price for the Tune Talk Pek Jimat plan is only applicable if you sign up for a 12-month duration. This means in order to enjoy Fokus 33 for RM33/month, you’ll have to sign up for 12 x 30 days validity which is RM396. There’s also a shorter 3-month option which costs RM105 (equivalent to RM35/month). On a month-to-month basis, the plan costs RM38/month.
Similarly, if you sign up on a monthly basis, the Fokus 40 plan would cost you RM48/month while the Bebas 55 plan costs RM68/month.
5GB FUP per day
Like most “unlimited” plans, there’s the dreaded Fair Usage Policy which limits on how much you can use on a monthly or even daily basis. Tune Talk’s Pek Jimat is no exception and here’s the FUP as listed in their terms and conditions:
- Fokus 33 – 50GB quota per month, 5GB per day.
- Fokus 40 – 60GB quota per month, 5GB per day.
- Bebas 55 – 80GB quota per month, 5GB per day
While the higher plan offers more quota, Tune Talk still sets a maximum daily limit of 5GB per day on all plans. Once you’ve hit your FUP quota limit, your speed will be throttled down to 256kbps for Free basic internet which comes with 10GB quota per month. You can always activate extra data boosters to regain faster speeds.
