DJI Mini 3 Pro leaks appear with a completely new design and controller

The DJI Mini series of drones have long been a fan favourite both among enthusiasts and beginner drone pilots alike, thanks to their entry-level prices and simplicity of use. The last major entry to the series though was back in November 2020, when the DJI Mini 2 debuted. Since then we haven’t gotten anything new, apart from the DJI Mini SE that was basically a rebadged Mavic Mini.

However, it seems as though that will change, as DJI is set to launch the DJI Mini 3 Pro soon. It’ll be the first entry in the Mini series to use the ‘Pro’ moniker, though they’ve used it before with the likes of the Mavic Pro for instance. According to leaked images, it will come with a pretty new design too. For instance, above the camera itself you no longer have the same design as that on the Mini SE and Mini 2. The body is now trimmed back, exposing the upper section of the camera module itself, while the gimbal now has arms that rotate too.

The leaker, @DealsDrone on Twitter, has also apparently cross checked the serial number on the purported DJI Mini 3 Pro and found that it’s a valid code, having been activated since 4 March. Other details of the DJI Mini 3 Pro are still a bit scarce for now, but it does look as though it will still weigh in at 249g (the same as the Mini 2). DJI are also expected to add in more ‘flagship’ features such as obstacle avoidance sensors, a larger battery and perhaps a larger sensor on the camera module too.

Another leaked image also seems to show the remote controller for the DJI Mini 3 Pro which has a built-in display on it. It should make it easier to use rather than having to pair it with your smartphone as before, but the image also has the joysticks much higher up than before. The same image also shows the DJI Mini 3 Pro in its folded state.

Of course, this remains just a rumour for now. There’s still no word yet from DJI if the Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro will be happening anytime soon. With that being said though, it’s going to be two years since the DJI Mini 2 was unveiled, and so it would make sense for the new member of the DJI Mini family to make an appearance soon.
