The Malaysian government has announced a 50% toll discount for two days in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration. If you’re planning to travel back to your hometown this weekend, you can enjoy cheaper toll rates on most highways across Peninsular Malaysia.
According to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the discount will be offered from Friday, 6 November until Saturday, 7 November 2026, ahead of Deepavali which falls on Sunday, 8 November.
The government has allocated an estimated RM20.11 million to compensate the affected highway concessionaires for the toll discount.
Government continues 50% toll discount for festive seasons

The 50% toll discount will be available for a total of 48 hours, starting and ending at the following times:
- Start: Friday, 6 November 2026, 12:00am
- End: Saturday, 7 November 2026, 11:59pm
The discount applies to Class 1 private vehicles on all highways nationwide. For the Penang Bridge, the discount also applies to Class 2 vehicles.
However, two toll plazas at the Malaysia-Singapore border are excluded from the discount:
- Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS).
- Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).
This means motorists travelling through these two toll plazas will still have to pay the usual toll rates.
The Works Ministry said the 50% discount is part of the government’s initiative to reduce travel costs during the festive season, particularly for Malaysians returning to their hometowns or visiting family members.
The ministry, through the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), will coordinate the implementation with the respective highway concessionaires.
As usual, do ensure your TNG cards, eWallet and payment methods are reloaded with sufficient credit before you start your journey.
The 50% toll discount continues the government’s initiative to reduce travel costs during major festive celebrations.
As reported previously, the government introduced the 50% toll discount during Chinese New Year in 2025, replacing the previous toll-free travel initiative.
In 2024, the government spent over RM200 million on toll-free travel initiatives covering Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and Christmas.
