Red BYD Sealion 7 spotted in Kuala Lumpur: The next limited edition release in Malaysia?

BYD Sealion 7 has never been offered in a Red colourway here in Malaysia. However, things may change soon, as such a unit has been spotted at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.

That being said, the anonymous source that sent us this image didn’t disclose the exact name of the location. Based on how this Red Sealion 7 and other cars in the image were parked, though, it appears that this particular section of the car park is being used as a stockyard for a BYD showroom.

Looks like this is the Performance variant.

Meanwhile, if you take a closer look at the image, you can spot the “4.5s” badge underneath the model name on the lower right side of the boot lid – a sign that this particular unit is a Sealion 7 Performance AWD.

At the moment, the Sealion 7, which has just been refreshed for 2026, is available in Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, Shark Grey, and Cosmos Black. The Premium variant also received another colour option exclusive to it, which is called Ultraviolet.

BYD Malaysia has also recently added the Gemilang Blue option for the 2026 Atto 3 Premium, which was then followed by the limited-edition 2026 Atto 3 Performance.

So, circling back to this red unit – are we looking at yet another exclusive limited edition or variant release? Well, the answer should be revealed very soon, given the appearance of this unit.

2026 BYD Sealion 7 – what’s new?

sUnlike the recent Atto 3 FL, there are no major changes to the exterior and interior of the 2026 Sealion 7, when compared to its predecessor that was launched in 2024. Instead, the big changes that the 2026 Sealion 7 carries involve its battery and charging capability.

Specifically, the 2026 Sealion 7 Premium and Performance now have a 91.39kWh BYD Blade LFP battery. As a comparison, their 2024 predecessors were equipped with an 82.5kWh battery pack.

With a larger capacity battery, naturally their range has been improved as well. The Premium variant range is now 650km NEDC (553km WLTP est.), while the Performance option is claimed to be 600km NEDC (510km WLTP est.).

In addition to that, the maximum DC charging speed on the 2026 Sealion 7 Premium and Performance has been improved from 150kW to 230kW. Not to forget, BYD has somehow improved the boot space capacity on both variants from 500L to 520L, which can be expanded further up to 1789L.

The biggest change that BYD has made to the 2026 Sealion 7 family in Malaysia is the introduction of the Sealion 7 Dynamic variant. Being the new base variant in the family, it helps lower the starting price for the Sealion 7 in Malaysia.

While it is still an RWD model just like the Premium option, the Sealion 7 Dynamic has a less powerful 170kW (228hp) electric motor that also generates 380Nm of torque. At the same time, the Dynamic option also carries a smaller 71.8kWh battery, which is why it also has the lowest range in the family at 520km NEDC (442km WLTP est.).

At the same time, the charging speed of the Sealion 7 Dynamic is also slower at 110kW for DC and 7kW for AC. The driver’s seat on the Dynamic variant is also missing the 4-way lumbar adjustment and power-adjustable leg rest.

The 2026 BYD Sealion 7 Performance AWD is currently priced at RM203,800, while the Sealion 7 Premium RWD goes for RM188,800. As for the Sealion 7 Dynamic, it starts at RM163,800.
