Sony has officially updated its mid-range phone lineup with the Sony Xperia 10 VIII, which is now listed on Sony Malaysia’s official website. Sitting right under the flagship Xperia 1 VIII, this phone replaces last year’s Xperia 10 VII.
Based on official product details, the phone retains the lightweight design and notchless display Sony is known for.
However, for those looking at internal hardware, this year’s model focuses mainly on exterior color styling, outdoor screen brightness, re-tuned speakers, and updated software.
What actually changed?
The back panel moves away from the plain matte finish of the Xperia 10 VII to a translucent, frosted glass look. It is available in three colors: Frozen White, Frosted Grey, and Misty Lilac. The phone weighs 168g and maintains its IP65/IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
On the front, it features a 6.1-inch Full HD+ (1080×2340) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and no notch or cutout. While the display size and resolution remain identical to the previous generation, Sony states this screen is up to 50% brighter to improve visibility outdoors under sunlight.
Sound performance also receives a modest boost, with the re-tuned front-firing stereo speakers promising 30% stronger bass response and up to 15% higher overall volume.
On the software and memory side, the device ships out of the box with Android 16, supported by 4 OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates.
What remains the same?
Under the hood, Sony decided to carry over almost all the core hardware specs from the Xperia 10 VII. The phone continues to run on Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card).
The camera setup remains unchanged as well, featuring a 50MP main camera (1/1.56-inch Exmor RS sensor with OIS), a 13MP ultra-wide sensor, and an 8MP selfie camera up front.
Powering the device is the same 5,000mAh battery promising up to two days of standard use. You also retain Sony’s signature legacy features, including a physical camera shutter button, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a lightweight 168g body, and IP65/IP68 dust and water resistance.
Malaysian availability and price outlook
As of right now, Sony Malaysia has yet to announce official pricing or release dates for the Xperia 10 VIII. The device is already listed on their local portal, but the price tag remains marked as TBA.
If we look back at the release schedule of the previous-generation Xperia 10 VII, Sony unveiled the phone globally in September before it eventually landed in Malaysia around early November at RM2,199. Should Sony follow a similar timeline this year, we can expect the Xperia 10 VIII to hit local market around October or November.
However, brace yourself for a potential price bump. Over in Europe, the Xperia 10 VIII debuted at EUR 599 (~RM2,824), a noticeable jump from the Xperia 10 VII’s European launch price of EUR 450 (~RM2,121). Given this price increase overseas and ongoing memory supply pressures, there is a strong chance the Xperia 10 VIII will carry a higher price tag than RM2,199 when local details are officially confirmed.
