Tesla Destination Chargers no longer free. Tesla owners now have to pay RM0.88 per kWh for AC Charging

One of the biggest perks of being a Tesla owner in Malaysia is free charging at Tesla Destination Charger.

After nearly 3 years, Tesla has finally stopped offering free charging at these Tesla-exclusive AC Charge Points. Starting from today, Tesla owners would have to pay RM0.88 per kWh to juice up at Tesla Destination Charging location.

This charging fee appears to be applicable to all Destination Chargers in the country.

At RM0.88 per kWh, Tesla Destination Chargers are priced slightly lower than the current market rate for 11kW AC charging of about RM1.00 to RM1.10 per kWh. If you’re in a hurry and need to charge quickly, Tesla Superchargers are just slightly more expensive and it can be significantly lower than RM1.00 per kWh during off-peak hours.

The most cost effective option to charge your EV is still home charging where users would pay TNB Domestic Rate of about RM0.50 per kWh depending on the monthly electricity consumption.

Since these chargers are no longer free, hopefully the move would improve the availability of these chargers to those who really need to charge.

As usual, do remember that if you’re not charging, you’re hogging. Please remove your vehicle once charging is completed so that others can charge their vehicle.

Tesla Malaysia has 75 Destination chargers at 18 locations in Malaysia.
