LRT3 Shah Alam Line now open: Free rides and parking until 31 July, here’s what first-time commuters need to know

The long-awaited LRT3 Shah Alam Line has officially begun operations today. To encourage more people to experience the new rail line, Rapid KL is offering free unlimited rides from 29 June until 31 July 2026.

The free travel campaign covers the entire LRT 3 Shah Alam Line as well as Rapid KL feeder shuttle bus services. In addition, free parking is also provided at the designated 6 Park N’ Ride facilities on LRT3 Shah Alam Line.

If you’re planning to take the new line for the first time, here’s everything you need to know.

You still need to tap in and tap out for free LRT3 rides

Although rides are free throughout the promotional period, passengers are still required to tap in and tap out at the fare gates.

If you’re using a Touch ‘n Go card or Rapid KL Travel Pass (My50/Rapid Bulanan/Rapid Kota/Rapid Kembara/Rapid Keluarga/Rapid Mesra/Rapid Pelajar/Rapid Emas), it must be active and have a minimum stored value of RM5 before you can enter the station. No fare will be deducted for eligible journeys during the campaign.

Alternatively, passengers can obtain a QR ticket from the Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) before boarding.

The free travel offer also extends to Rapid KL feeder shuttle bus services serving the Shah Alam Line which will require either a Touch ‘n Go card or a Rapid KL Travel Pass.

Take note that Rapid KL On-Demand vans are excluded from the campaign.

20 operational stations on LRT3

The 37.8km Shah Alam Line serves 20 operational stations between Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya and Johan Setia in Klang.

The stations are:

  • Bandar Utama (Interchange with MRT Kajang Line)
  • Kayu Ara
  • BU 11 (Bandar Utama 11)
  • Damansara Idaman
  • Subang
  • Glenmarie 2 (Interchange with LRT Kelana Jaya Line)
  • Kerjaya
  • Stadium Shah Alam
  • Dato’ Menteri
  • UiTM Shah Alam
  • Seksyen 7 Shah Alam
  • Bandar Baru Klang
  • Pasar Klang
  • Jalan Meru
  • Jambatan Kota
  • Taman Selatan
  • Sri Andalas
  • Klang Jaya
  • Bandar Bukit Tinggi
  • Johan Setia

LRT3 Train frequency

On Weekdays, the LRT3 trains operate every 8 minutes during the morning (7:00am-9:30am) and evening (5:00pm-7:30pm) peak periods. Outside peak hours, services run every 10 to 15 minutes.

On Saturdays, trains operate every 10 minutes from 6:00am until 12:00am.

On Sundays and public holidays, trains also operate every 10 minutes from 6:00am until 11:30pm.

Park and Ride available, free until 31 July

If you’re planning to drive to the station, Park and Ride facilities are available at the following locations:

  • Kayu Ara — 350 parking bays
  • Damansara Idaman — 150 parking bays
  • Pasar Klang — 100 parking bays
  • Sri Andalas — 550 parking bays
  • Bandar Bukit Tinggi — 600 parking bays
  • Johan Setia — 550 parking bays

According to the T&C, Park N’ Ride facilities at Bandar Utama and Glenmarie 2 are not included in the free parking initiative during the free travel campaign period. Parking at these two stations will continue to be charged according to the existing rates.

Free feeder shuttle buses until 31 July

Rapid KL feeder shuttle bus services are also free until 31 July 2026, allowing commuters to travel between nearby neighbourhoods and LRT3 stations without paying a fare.

Do note that the free travel campaign does not include Rapid KL On-Demand vans.

If you’ve been waiting to experience the Shah Alam Line, now is the perfect opportunity to do so at no cost. Just remember to bring a Touch ‘n Go card with at least RM5 stored value, or obtain a QR ticket from the Ticket Vending Machine before starting your journey.
