U Mobile: ULTRA5G now available in Bangi, Putrajaya and PJ New Town, indoor coverage available in 30 buildings

U Mobile has announced further expansion of its ULTRA5G Network. This is Malaysia’s second 5G network which is powered by both 5G Standalone and 5G Non-Standalone technologies.

Since announcing its 5G coverage availability at Berjaya Times Square, Penang Bridge and Kota Kinabalu three months ago, the orange telco announced that its ULTRA5G experience is now live in Bangi, Putrajaya and Petaling Jaya New Town.

It added that these three outdoor clusters have ULTRA5G enabled throughout the entire townships and U Mobile customers can enjoy a seamless experience on their own next generation 5G network anywhere in these locations.

U Mobile Chief Technology Officer Woon Ooi Yuen said, “U Mobile is excited that our ULTRA5G experience, powered by both 5G Standalone and 5G Non-Standalone technologies, is now available to our customers in Bangi, Putrajaya and Petaling Jaya New Town. We are committed to bring the deepest and widest 5G coverage to all Malaysians. Since the start of our deployment, we have already brought our 5G-Advanced technology network to not only these three outdoor clusters, but also indoors in 30 buildings, with many more to come.”

He added that residents in ULTRA5G coverage areas will be able to enjoy enhanced experiences such as crystal-clear video calls, seamless streaming and gaming, even in crowded environments.

If you’re connected to U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network, the network identifier on the device will display “UM ULTRA5G”. Meanwhile, U Mobile 5G via Digital Nasional Berhad will be displayed as either “U Mobile” or “U Mobile 5G SA”.

In Bangi, ULTRA5G covers the corridor stretching from Universiti Tenaga Nasional to Bandar Baru Bangi, as well as Bangi’s residential and commercial areas. The network also covers the township’s industrial park, unlocking enterprise digitalisation possibilities.

For Putrajaya, the 5G network is said to cover vast majority of its precincts and key administrative zones, supporting public sector innovation. The outdoor footprint includes areas surrounding prominent landmarks such as Seri Perdana Complex and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), as well as Putrajaya Botanical Garden, Taman Wetland Putrajaya, Putrajaya Lake, Seri Gemilang Bridge, Seri Wawasan Bridge as well as commercial and residential areas across all precincts.

In PJ New Town, the ULTRA5G coverage covers from Kampung Sungai Way to PJ New Town, covering Seksyen 51A, Jalan 222, PJ New Town and Seksyen 52 (around Taman Jaya LRT and nearby amenities).

Last week, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil told Parliament that U Mobile’s 5G rollout has already achieved 58.2% 5G population coverage as of 31st October 2025. However, it appears that the actual real world coverage is different from our own tests and from U Mobile’s listed locations.

The Minister claimed that U Mobile’s 5G network has already covered over 90% of populated areas in Kuala Lumpur as of end-September, but we found that only 26.3% of tested areas ( 5 out of 19 ) were actually covered by ULTRA5G.

The orange telco aims to achieve 80% 5G population coverage by the second half of 2026.
