Shell Recharge App now official in Malaysia: Dynamic pricing, access to Thailand EV chargers coming soon

Shell Malaysia has officially announced the availability of the Shell Recharge Asia app for our market. Readily available from iOS App Store and Google Play, the new app will be taking over the role of the ParkEasy app that the company has utilised for Shell Recharge EV chargers since 2018.

Even though the official launch event took place only earlier this week, many EV owners have already noticed the new app for almost a month. This is because certain Shell Recharge chargers have already been migrated to the new app before the launch event.

The migration notice on ParkEasy.

As for the ParkEasy app itself, Shell Malaysia has confirmed that the app will be decommissioned at the end of this month. If you still have credits and active memberships in the ParkEasy app, make sure to complete the transfer request to the new Shell Recharge Asia app before 30 November 2025.

Shell Recharge Asia App: Better UI and more interactive than ParkEasy

Shell Recharge App Launch Malaysia - Nov 2025

The move to the new Shell Recharge Asia app generally helps put some new life into the user experience of Shell Recharge EV chargers. The new app is essentially more interactive and modern than the ParkEasy app, which prioritises speed and simplicity over everything else.

Some of the characteristics and features of the ParkEasy are still present on the new Shell Recharge Asia app, but with some changes. For example, you can still book a charging bay in advance for a fee through the new app.

That being said, the reservation duration is now much shorter at just 10 minutes instead of 1 hour as before. Furthermore, Shell Malaysia has removed the automatic parking barrier from all Shell Recharge chargers nationwide.

The Shell Recharge Asia app also still has a built-in wallet, just like ParkEasy. However, users can now choose to pay the charging fee directly using a debit or credit card instead of topping up credits into the wallet.

With the ParkEasy app, you have to manually browse the location list in order to find and activate your charger. On the new Shell Recharge Asia app, you can simply let the app discover your location and then use the map to see the location of nearby Shell Recharge chargers.

Alternatively, you can also choose to see the nearby chargers via a list. Not to forget, the Shell Recharge Asia app allows users to either input Station ID or use the app’s built-in QR scanner to activate their charging session.

Dynamic pricing and roaming support in Thailand coming soon

Through the new Shell Recharge Asia app, Malaysian EV owners can access Shell Recharge chargers in Singapore. Shell Malaysia is already working to enable access to chargers in Thailand as well, but the company did not reveal to us when exactly the implementation will be completed.

During the launch event, Shell Malaysia has also revealed that the company is currently working to implement dynamic pricing for Shell Recharge chargers. Details were scarce, but from what we managed to gather, it will be initially implemented at Shell Recharge High Performance Charging (HPC) stations.

The dynamic pricing will depend on locations and time of visit – essentially, the charging cost will likely be lower during off-peak periods and/or locations that have fewer users. In terms of price range, this was not revealed to us, and Shell Malaysia didn’t reveal when EV owners will be able to take advantage of this feature.
