TNB Electron has activated yet another new EV charging station in the East Coast region of Peninsular Malaysia. This time around, it is located at the Petron Makmur Gambang Jaya 2 in Pahang – just 5km away from the Gambang Toll Plaza of the East Coast Expressway (LPT).
The new EV charging spot features four charging bays that are being served by two Autel MaxiCharger DC chargers that have been set to deliver a maximum DC charging speed of 200kW. Since these chargers support dynamic power sharing, each bay can support a DC charging speed of up to 100kW if the location is fully occupied.

Given the charging speed, the TNB Electron Petron Makmur Gambang Jaya 2 is currently the fastest DC charger in the Gambang area. In terms of charging fee, it costs RM1.50 per kWh, but as per TNB Electron’s tradition for a newly deployed EV charging station, you can charge your EV there for free until this Sunday, 26 October at 11:59 PM.
To activate these chargers, just tap your credit or debit card on the nearby JuiceUp payment terminal. For CIMB Card holders, you can currently save up to RM8 with a minimum spend of RM30 at any TNB Electron chargers that support card payment.

For now, TNB Electron’s latest charging station in Gambang is not yet accessible via the Go To-U app. The CPO has previously said that it will integrate all of its chargers with a card payment terminal into the app in the near future, but the integration timeline has not yet been revealed to the public.
This is a great off-highway EV charging location for the LPT Westbound route
EV owners who are travelling from Kelantan and Terengganu to KL usually need to make one charging stop to top up their battery. Understandably, most drivers would be reluctant to go off the highway, but for the LPT Westbound route, we strongly recommend that you do so at either Kuantan or Gambang.
This is because, at the moment, there are no good on-highway EV chargers on the LPT Westbound route once you pass Gambang. For one, we always advise everyone to avoid the controversial 50kW Gentari charger at Petronas Gambang R&R Westbound, which has 3 different types of charging connectors but can only support 1 vehicle at a time.
The next option is supposed to be Shell Recharge Temerloh R&R Westbound. Unfortunately, the charger is still offline until today – even though it has been installed for more than a year and already received the required licence from the Energy Commission (ST).
Meanwhile, Gentari Petronas Genting Sempah is not only super slow at just 24kW but also unusable most of the time. According to the Gentari Go app, this particular charger can currently only be used from 8 AM to 4 PM, and you need to ask the station dealer to activate it if you want to utilise it.
The only feasible option is the 60kW El Charge charger at Bukit Tinggi. That being said, this charger tends to be blocked by ICE vehicles (or the night market on Tuesdays) according to several comments on PlugShare.
So, yes, if you are travelling from the East Coast to KL via LPT, it is highly recommended that you exit at the Gambang Toll Plaza and charge your car at the nearby DC charging stations, such as the newly opened TNB Electron Petron Makmur Gambang Jaya 2.
