Honor Magic V5 Malaysia launch happening on 15th July. World’s thinnest bi-fold smartphone at 8.8mm

Just days ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch, Honor Malaysia has announced that its Magic V5 foldable smartphone will be launching in Malaysia early next week.

This is the brand’s latest foldable smartphone which was launched in mainland China last week. The Magic V5 is currently the world’s thinnest bi-fold smartphone measuring at just 8.8mm (when folded), beating the previous record held by the Oppo Find N5.

According to Honor Malaysia, the Magic V5 launch is scheduled to take place at 2pm on Tuesday, 15th July 2025. You can watch the local launch event live on the official Honor Malaysia Facebook page.

The official pricing will be revealed during the live stream event and Malaysian consumers would be able to place their orders with early-bird promos shortly after the event.

As revealed earlier, the Magic V5 is significantly thinner than its predecessor, the Magic V3. When unfolded, it measures just 4.1mm thick, which excludes the protruding camera bump.

According to Honor, the Magic V5 is a ultra-slim foldable smartphone without compromises. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 8 Elite and it still manages to pack a generous 5,820mAh capacity battery for the international market (6,100mAh for China). The device features a 7.95″ 120Hz LTPO OLED display on the inside and a 6.43″ 120Hz LTPO OLED cover display.

The smartphone maker has also made its thinnest foldable device more durable with reinforced Non-Newtonian Fluid technology to provide full protection and better resistance against drops on hard surface. Interestingly, they are also boasting an “AI-Powered Foreign Object Detection” which alerts you if particles as small as 0.8mm such as sand enters the inner screen.

The hinge has been redesigned to endure rigorous daily use and its Super Steel Hinge is said to be capable of withstanding weights of up to 35kg without bending. They recently showcased a demo of a 35kg dumbbell being hung from the Honor Magic V5. According to Honor, the folding mechanism is built to withstand 500,000 folding cycles, equivalent to 100 folds per day for up to 13 years.

The Magic V5 weighs 217g, which is lighter than some candybar flagship smartphones and it also offers improved dust and water resistance with IP58 rating. To juice up quickly, it supports 66W wired Honor SuperCharge and 50W wireless charging.

Despite being super slim, Honor still manages to fit a 64MP periscope telephoto camera module which is capable of doing up to 100x digital zoom. The device also gets a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Meanwhile, both displays also feature a 20MP selfie shooter.

In China, the Honor Magic V5 is priced from CNY 8,999 (about RM5,319) for the base 12GB RAM + 256GB storage version, while the range topping 16GB RAM + 1TB storage option is going for CNY 10,999 (about RM6,502).

As a reference, last year’s Honor Magic V3 launched with a price tag of RM6,999 in Malaysia. During the launch, Honor Malaysia offered free gifts worth RM2,896 which includes a 365-day screen protection, Honor Watch 4, Honor Magic Pen and an Honor SuperCharge Wireless Charger Stand.
