Ahead of the brand’s official launch in our market next week, the list of Tesla Supercharger locations in Malaysia has been revealed on its website. This follows the revelation of the pricing for Model Y in Malaysia which is listed from RM199,000.
According to the Find Us section of the website, the first batch of Tesla Supercharger deployments in Malaysia will take place in 10 locations. Here they are:
- Iskandar Puteri, Johor
- Dengkil, Selangor
- Petaling Jaya, Selangor
- Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur
- Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur
- Ipoh, Perak
- Perai, Pulau Pinang
- One unnamed location in Negeri Sembilan
- Two unnamed locations in Kuala Lumpur
Regarding the undisclosed location in Negeri Sembilan, it is possible that the Supercharger will be placed on North-South Expressway (PLUS) based on the spot that was pinned on the map. Similarly, one of the unnamed spots in Kuala Lumpur seemed to be the Maju Expressway (MEX) while the other one is in Jalan Kuching.
Do note that none of these Superchargers have been activated though and it is probably safe to even assume that the pin on the map is just a rough indication. In fact, Tesla has noted on its website that the target opening date for all of them is yet to be confirmed while the list of Superchargers is updated on a quarterly basis.
Tesla Supercharger is able to deliver up to 250kW of energy which matches the maximum charging rate of the Tesla Model Y. The brand’s website stated that users are able to obtain up to 270km of range with a charging time of 15 minutes.
Tesla has yet to reveal the charging fee for Superchargers in Malaysia but has said that the payment will be processed directly from the Tesla app. The company will also implement idle fees whereby users will have to pay a certain amount if they left their Tesla plugged into the Supercharger after the charge session is finished.
The Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Zafrul has previously said that revealed that Tesla has to install at least 50 Superchargers throughout Malaysia within three years. This is part of the requirement for the Battery Electric Vehicle Global Leaders program set by his ministry.
In addition to that, these Superchargers must be able to able to deliver at least 180kW. Tesla also has to make sure that at least 30% of them can be accessed by EVs made by other brands.
