The NVIDIA GeForce Now cloud gaming service, in partnership with Yes 5G, has been in Malaysia for a few months now, but has now finally made it official with a launch event in downtown Bukit Bintang. As part of this launch, Yes 5G will be having a roadshow at Starhill Bukit Bintang this weekend from 10am to 10pm to show to the public just how its cloud gaming service works.
As a recap, the Yes 5G NVIDIA GeForce Now platform lets you stream your video game, instead of playing it directly off your device itself. Priced at RM30 a month for Yes 5G customers and RM50 a month for non-Yes 5G users, the service lets you play your games on almost any device, from laptops and desktop PCs, Macs, smartphones, tablets and even certain supported TVs. You can also save a bit by getting their annual plans, which cost RM300 a year for Yes customers and RM500 for non-Yes customers.
You’ll never have to download any game; instead you only have to ensure you own the game on Steam, Epic or Ubisoft already, and then via the NVIDIA GeForce Now client you can access your game through these game launchers and play immediately. You do of course first need to check that the game you want to play is actually available in the NVIDIA GeForce Now game library, which has over 1,600 titles ranging from popular eSports titles to the latest triple-A games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy.
Regardless of whether you sign up for NVIDIA GeForce Now as a Yes customer or not, you’ll get the same subscription tier which gets you RTX-capable gameplay with up to 6 hours of non-stop gaming per session and ‘high’ priority access to games; the latter matters in other regions where there are multiple tiers with lower tier plans getting lower priority access to games in the event that the servers are full during peak hours.

Despite bring marketed as a ‘game on anything, anywhere’ service targeting those who may not be able to afford gaming PCs, there are some minor hardware requirements to take note of. The most important one is of course your internet speeds as you are streaming your game onto your device. NVIDIA GeForce Now recommends that you have an internet connection that’s at least 15Mbps for 720p gaming at 60 FPS, or 25Mbps for 1080p at 60 FPS. They also require that your latency between your device and the NVIDIA data center be less than 40ms for best experience.
Now we did get to try out the service when it was in beta earlier this year. You can read our full review of it here, but basically we found that it was mostly a good enough alternative for when you aren’t able to play your games. I personally have a gaming PC at home but when I’m on the go, all I’d have is a thin-and-light laptop, and with NVIDIA GeForce Now I was still able to play single player games despite not having the necessary hardware. However, multiplayer gaming was a bit more of a struggle due to occasional internet hiccups.
