Almost a month after making its global debut, Asus has finally brought their latest ROG Phone 7 series to our shores in a launch event at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Featuring two models—the ROG Phone 7 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate—these new gaming smartphones offer all the latest hardware you can expect in a performance-focused device.

Asus ROG Phone 7 series Malaysia pricing and availability

The ROG Phone 7 is already available in Malaysia, while the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will be coming to Malaysia on 15 May onwards. Early birds who get the ROG Phone 7 at their roadshow at Pavilion Bukit Jalil meanwhile will be able to get free gifts worth up to RM946, which include the AeroActive Cooler 6, a screen protector and a phone case.

  • Asus ROG Phone 7, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM3,599
  • Asus ROG Phone 7, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM4,299
  • Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM4,999

The base ROG Phone 7 comes in your choice of Phantom Black or Storm White, while the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will only be available in the latter option. However it does come with the AeroActive Cooler 7 in the box, which will otherwise cost you RM399.

Asus ROG Phone 7 series specs

At first glance, the ROG Phone 7 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will look pretty similar and well that’s because they are. They share nearly all the same specs, with mostly cosmetic differences between the two; the ROG Phone 7 has an RGB ROG logo on the back while the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate has a secondary ROG Vision matrix display that users can customise to showcase things like notifications, charging status, incoming calls and personalised animations. There’s also an AeroActive Portal on the latter to be used with the AeroActive Cooler 7 for better cooling.

The ROG Phone 7 series comes with a large 6.78-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display with a rapid 165Hz refresh rate. Asus has also upgraded it to a peak brightness of 1,500nits, nearly double the ROG Phone 6’s 800nits of peak brightness. It’s colour accurate too with a Delta E <1, with support for HDR10, a 23ms touch latency and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. There’s a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus over it too for scratch resistance.

Powering the ROG Phone 7 series is of course the latest and greatest from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 system-on-chip. This is complemented with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Keeping it all cooled meanwhile is a rapid cycle 3D vapour chamber. You’ll find Android 13 out of the box too with ROG UI over it, along with a host of gaming-focused tools such as Armoury Crate, Game Genie, X-mode for higher performance and a background mode for games. Asus is also guaranteeing at least two major Android OS upgrades with four years of security patches on the ROG Phone 7 series.

While perhaps not the most important feature, the Asus ROG Phone 7 line up does have a respectable camera setup, with a main 50MP camera on the back using the Sony IMX766 sensor flanked by a 13MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro lens, with a 32MP front facing camera rounding it off—an upgrade over its predecessor’s 12MP selfie shooter. There’s AI segmentation with RAW super resolution technology too for better photos with the cameras.

Other features of note include AirTriggers where the shoulder buttons would be, a massive 6,000mAh battery with 65W charging, an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm audio jack and an IP54 dust and water resistance rating. There’s also support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and 5G, along with two USB-C ports and pogo pins on the side.

Those pogo pins are to be used with the AeroActive Cooler 7, perhaps the biggest upgrade the ROG Phone 7 series has gotten. While its primary role is still to be an external cooler, it now also has a 5-magnet super linear subwoofer on it, with Asus claiming the 38mm speaker brings 77% stronger bass from the device. Together with the symmetrical dual front facing stereo speakers you’re getting an excellent sound system on the ROG Phone 7 series.

The actual cooling part of the AeroActive Cooler 7 has been upgraded too, with a new DualCool design allowing the AeroActive Cooler 7 to vent cold air across the display when in use. The hinge on the cooler has been improved too for better durability. And of course, it brings additional buttons and features RGB lighting that can be controlled from the device itself.
