Aside from the new 13 Ultra, Xiaomi has also introduced several other devices, the most interesting of which being the Xiaomi TV Master Mini LED 86″. As the name suggests, it sits at the top of the company’s TV lineup, with pricing to match.
The highlight of this 86-inch 4K model is of course the Mini LED display, which is still limited to high-end TVs and Apple’s MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. It consists of 1080 diodes to provide local dimming (using an in-house algorithm), resulting in the inky blacks of OLED TVs without the risk of burn-in.
Xiaomi is quoting a contrast ratio of 6,700,000:1, a 178º viewing angle and an impressive peak brightness of 2,000 nits; the device also offers a 144Hz refresh rate. Of course, it supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, but it also carries IMAX Enhanced certification.
Xiaomi is also touting professional-grade colour accuracy, with 99% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut coverage and a delta E (dE) error figure of around 0.8. Users can do colour calibration using a compatible Xiaomi smartphone (currently only the 13 Ultra), much like the Apple TV 4K and a compatible iPhone. There’s also a built-in light sensor for more consistent colours under any lighting condition.
As for audio, the TV Master Mini LED uses six speakers (two on each corner, two in the middle), along with a 20W subwoofer and two passive radiators for a total output of 70W; Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are supported. All this is powered by four Cortex A73 cores and a Mali G52 (2EE) MC1 GPU, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The device runs on MIUI for TV for the Chinese market.
Elsewhere, the TV Master Mini LED features WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, along with Miracast and AirPlay support, the latter for iPhone and Mac screen mirroring. You’ll also find three HDMI ports (including one eARC port), two USB ports (including one USB 3.0 port), an Ethernet port and an optical audio port.
All this doesn’t come cheap, with the Xiaomi TV Master Mini LED 86″ priced at a heady RMB 15,999 (around RM10,311) in China, although Xiaomi is at least bundling in free personalised installation. Still, that’s a damn sight less expensive than a comparable TV from mainstream brands, such as the RM26,999 Sony Bravia XR X95K 85″.
