One request we’re sure many users have made over the years is for WhatsApp to allow users to log into multiple devices at the same time. It became somewhat easier with WhatsApp Web followed by the multi-device feature that allowed chat on other devices even without your smartphone. Today though the messaging platform has announced that you can finally use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones.
In a new blog post the Meta-owned platform reveals that the new multi-device feature will now allow you to have WhatsApp on up to four additional devices, including other smartphones, web browsers, tablets and desktops. Each linked smartphone will connect to WhatsApp independently too, meaning that all your texts, media and calls are end-to-end encrypted. If your main smartphone goes offline for too long though WhatsApp will log you out of all other devices as a security measure.
WhatsApp claims that by allowing you to link phones as a companion device, it’ll make messaging easier and allows for you to switch between phones without having to sign out and in on every new smartphone. Small business owners in particular will benefit too as other employees can respond to customers directly from their own phones under the same company WhatsApp Business number.
The new feature has already begun rolling out to users around the world, and should be available to all users within the next few weeks. WhatsApp says that other alternative methods to link a companion device will be coming soon too, such as using a one-time code instead of scanning a QR code.
