Samsung Galaxy S23 FE to launch in Q4 2023 but one thing might disappoint die-hard fans

The a new Fan Edition Galaxy smartphone is set to make a new appearance this year with the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. The FE is seen as the budget flagship alternative from Samsung which offers flagship-class hardware at a much lower price point.

Despite not releasing a new model last year to replace the Galaxy S21 FE, Samsung is said to be on track to release the Galaxy S23 FE sometime in the final quarter of 2023. According to Sammobile, the Galaxy S23 FE could be priced at about the same price or lower than the Galaxy S21 FE which launched in Malaysia with a starting price of RM2,899. This would be a cheaper option for consumers that won’t want to fork out at least RM3,899 for a Galaxy S23 series device.

In terms of hardware, it is rumoured that the Galaxy S23 FE will be using Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 chip instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series process. The Exynos 2200 chip was used on last year’s Galaxy S22 but in select markets such as Europe, while the rest of the world including Malaysia got the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. As we all know, most die-hard Samsung fans in Malaysia would prefer a Qualcomm chip over an Exynos for its performance and battery life advantage.

However, it is not all bad for the Galaxy S23 FE as the new budget flagship device is expected to get a 50MP main camera which is an upgrade from 12MP on the previous Galaxy S20 FE and S21 FE. Also retained is a 4,500mAh battery which is likely to still support 25W fast-charging via USB-C. Being a flagship-level Samsung device, you can still expect IP68-rated water resistance, stereo speakers wireless charging and Samsung Pay. Despite using an older processor, hopefully Samsung will maintain its commitment to provide 5 years of security updates and 4 major OS updates.
