The Honor Magic Vs is the company’s latest foldable smartphone. Similar to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, it first debuted in China late last year, and we even got a chance to take a quick look at it then too. Since then though, Honor has launched it onto the global stage, with the Magic Vs now officially available in Malaysia.

The Honor Magic Vs is now available for pre-order in Malaysia, with the single specification of 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage costing you RM5,999. You’ll be able to pre-order it from now till the 13th of April at their official website, Honor Experience Stores, their official stores on Shopee and Lazada as well as their authorised dealers nationwide.
During the pre-order sale, buyers will also be able to snag themselves a gift bundle worth RM2,200, which includes a Nescafe Genio S Touch coffee machine, an additional year of warranty and a 180-day screen crack protection warranty. Once the pre-order period ends, full availability of the Magic Vs will occur on 28 April.
Honor Magic Vs specs
If you’ve seen Honor’s first attempt at a foldable, the Magic V, you might not be too unfamiliar with the Magic Vs. They’ve kept what is essentially the same design, but made it noticeably thinner than before, measuring just 12.9mm when folded, less than the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 15.8mm. It’s also a little lighter too, coming in at 261g compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 263g and much lighter than the original Magic V that weighed 293g.
When it comes to its displays meanwhile, the Magic Vs has a 6.45-inch, FHD+ OLED outer display that covers the full DCI-P3 colour gamut and pushes a 120Hz refresh rate, along with a peak brightness of 1200nits and support for HDR10+. The outer display uses a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it feel very much like a smartphone in your hand. There’s also a very slight curve on the edges of the screen.
The main display meanwhile is a large 7.9-inch screen with a 10.3:9 aspect ratio, pushing a 2272 x 1984p resolution. It’s a little bit more tame than the outer display though, with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 800nits. The hinge in the middle meanwhile had been reworked by Honor, with the Magic Vs using a ‘super-light’ gearless hinge, reducing the total number of components in the support structure from 92 to just 4. It’s built out of aerospace-grade material too which helped keep the weight down, with Honor claiming a lifespan of over 400,000 folds.
Under the hood meanwhile, you unfortunately won’t get Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chip here, likely because it first launched in China back in November last year. Instead, you’ll find a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 system-on-chip, which in its defence is still a fairly powerful flagship processor from last generation. This gets mated to up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and you get Android 13 with MagicOS 7.1 skinned over it out of the box. Honor is also guaranteeing 3 major OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches with the Magic Vs.
Over on the back of the phone is a triple rear camera setup, with a main 54MP, f/1.9 camera flanked by a 50MP, f/2.0 ultrawide shooter and an 8MP, f/2.4 telephoto camera offering a 3x optical zoom and up to a 30x digital zoom. Both the outer display and the main display have 16MP, f/2.45 cameras for selfies and video conferencing.
Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery with 66W fast charging, though the Magic Vs lacks wireless charging here. There’s also stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, as well as support for WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and 5G. The Honor Magic Vs will be available in either Cyan or Black.
Overall, its price tag puts it at a relative advantage over the Galaxy Z Fold 4, with the Samsung foldable currently starting at RM6,799 on its website for the 12GB+256GB model, significantly more than the RM5,999 Honor is asking for. However, it does lack a number of creature comforts that the Galaxy Fold 4 offers, such as wireless charging, a better software support policy as well as an IPX8 rating.
