ChargEV’s 225kW DC and 22kW AC chargers at Berjaya Times Square are now available for use

After over a month of testing, ChargEV has officially turned on its fastest DC charger yet located at Berjaya Times Square. These are Kempower units with two nozzles capable of pushing a listed maximum output of 225kW. These chargers will charge based on kWh utilised which is a fairer way to calculate for EV charging instead of the time-based mechanism.

The DC Chargers at Berjaya Times Square’s ground floor main entrance costs RM1.20 per kWh until the end of April 2023. That’s similar to Gentari’s current promotional rate for its 350kW DC fast charger at XPark Sunway Serene. ChargEV has also deployed 6 AC chargers rated at 22kW located in Basement 1 of the same mall. The AC units cost RM0.80 per kWh for non-members and RM0.60 per kWh for ChargEV users.

You can activate the chargers using the ChargEV app which is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

ChargEV has also announced a promo where members can enjoy 20% or 50% off their first Grande Handcrafted Beverage purchased in a single receipt at Starbucks when they use the AC or DC chargers, respectively. To enjoy this offer, just show your ChargEV membership ID on your phone to redeem it at the counter. This promo is valid for two weeks in conjunction with the soft launch of their chargers.

From our recent experience with ChargEV’s latest DC Chargers at Berjaya Times Square, the new Kempower units can charge a Kia EV6 from 36-80% in just 12 minutes with a total of 36kWh utilised. We managed to get over 230kW maximum charging rate until 50% before it starts to dip gradually to 160kW. Based on the current trial rate of RM1.20 per kWh, this 36kWh charge would have cost us RM43.20 and it provided us with an additional top-up of over 200km of driving range.

Take note that the actual charging speed depends on your EV’s maximum DC charging rate and the current state of charge. For example, the BYD Atto 3 Extended range could only take a maximum charging rate of 70kW while the Mazda MX-30 EV can only take DC charging up to 50kW. Typically, the maximum charging speed can only be achieved when the EV’s battery percentage is below 50%.
