If you’re heading to the East Coast on an electric vehicle, take note that the DC Fast Charger at Petronas Gambang Eastbound is currently unavailable from 8th March until 19th April 2023. As an interim solution, they have mobilised a Kempower portable DC charger at the Petronas station.
According to JomCharge, the 180kW DC charger which has two CCS2 ports pushing 90kW each is currently unavailable due to canopy site works. If you need to top up your EV’s battery, there’s now a 22kW DC charger supplied by a Kempower T-Series portable charger as pictured below.
To activate the charger, you can still use your Setel or JomCharge app and search for “Petronas Gambang Arah Timur”. It only has a single CCS2 port and it costs RM0.50 per minute to use.
As shared on PlugShare, the Kempower T-Series portable charger is capable of pushing a maximum DC output of 22kW. It is definitely slower than the 90kW unit but at least it is faster than 11kW supplied from an AC charger. An hour of charging to get about 20kWh of charge would cost RM30. The permanent 90kW DC charger at the Petronas Gambang station is priced at RM2.20 per minute and you can get about 20kWh charge in 15 minutes for RM33.
If you just got yourself an EV in Malaysia, here’s the list of EV charging apps you should know. In case you missed it, TNB has started accepting payments for EV charging at TNB Electron stations located at highway R&Rs. The rates start from RM2.05 per minute for 80kW to RM2.35 per minute for 100kW.
