Honor’s latest flagship smartphones, the Magic 5 series and Magic Vs are coming to Malaysia very soon. According to Honor Malaysia’s CEO Justin Li, the dual flagships which made their global debut at MWC2023, are expected to be released locally this coming April 2023.

If you’re interested in either flagship device, you can sign up to be notified about its availability on Honor Malaysia’s website. All three devices (including the Honor Magic 5) are already listed as coming soon. The Magic 5 Pro and Magic Vs are currently listed with 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage, while the standard Magic 5 is listed with 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage.

Honor Magic 5 series

The Honor Magic 5 series is the brand’s latest flagship series that are running on a Qualcommm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The top-of-the-line Honor Magic 5 Pro features a 6.81″ 120Hz 2848×1313 pixels resolution OLED display which boasts a peak HDR brightness of 1800 nits and an industry’s first 2160MHz Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) for reduced flicker at low brightness.

In the camera department, the Magic 5 Pro gets a triple-50MP camera setup featuring a 50MP f/1.6 main shooter with a 1/1.2″ image sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP telephoto camera that offers 3.5x optical zoom and digital zoom up to 100x. Besides enhancing details, Honor is using AI for its Falcon Capture algorithm to take clear and sharp images instantly even in challenging low-light situations. Over at the front, it gets a long pill-shaped punch-hole that houses a 12MP selfie camera and a 3D depth sensor.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro still offers IP68-rated dust resistance, stereo speakers, wireless charging as well as support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.2 and 5G. Powering the device is a larger and average 5,100mAh battery that supports 66W SuperCharge via USB-C.

Honor Magic Vs

The Magic Vs is Honor’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The front gets a 6.45″ 120Hz Full HD+ OLED cover display while the inside gets a larger 7.9″ 90Hz 2272×1984 pixels resolution flexible OLED screen. Under the hood, it runs on a slightly older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The Honor Magic Vs features a gearless hinge system which uses just four parts for the supporting structure. Despite its simpler design, the Magic Vs is said to be durable enough to withstand 400,000 folds during its lifetime. Unlike Samsung foldables, there’s also no “thigh-gap” when the Magic Vs is folded.

For taking pictures, it gets a triple-camera setup which includes a 54MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera. The device also gets 16MP selfie cameras for both the cover and inner display. Despite its thin and practical dimensions, Honor is still fitting a rather generous 5,000mAh battery which supports 66W fast wired charging. While it still gets stereo speakers, the Magic Vs lacks IPX8-rated water resistance and it doesn’t have wireless charging.

So far we don’t have any indicative Malaysian pricing but we reckon that it should be priced closely to China rather than Europe. In Europe, the Magic 5 Pro 12GB RAM + 512GB storage is priced at EUR 1,199 (about RM5,765) while in China, the Magic 5 Pro with 16GB RAM + 512GB storage is priced at CNY 6,199 (about RM4,038).

The foldable Honor Magic Vs 12GB RAM + 512GB storage is priced at EUR 1,599 (about RM7,688) in Europe which is quite expensive. But in China, it’s going for CNY 8,999 (about RM5,861), which undercuts the Galaxy Z Fold 4 significantly.

As confirmed by Honor Malaysia, both flagship devices will come with 5 years of security updates and 3 major Android OS updates. In case you still don’t know, both Honor flagships come with Google Mobile Services with access to the Google Play Store.
