The appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) falls under the Ministry of Finance. This was revealed by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil during a media conference held today at Parliament.
Fahmi said any appointment for MOF Inc entities will have to refer to the Ministry of Finance and it is not the purview of his Ministry. “DNB is one of the 12 gazetted agencies that the Ministry of Communications and Digital have oversight over but they do not make that decision (appointment of DNB CEO),” added Fahmi.
It was reported that Ralph Marshall stepped down as the CEO of the 5G Single Wholesale Network after his contract was not renewed. Ralph Marshall was appointed as CEO on 1st March 2021 when the Ministry of Finance introduced DNB as the government’s special purpose vehicle for the national 5G network.
At the moment, the government is still reviewing the current 5G deployment plan and it aims to expedite the 5G rollout to achieve 80% 5G population coverage by the end of 2023. As announced during the budget, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government will manage DNB more transparently to ensure full participation by telcos.
