Yes wins Ookla’s award for the fastest mobile network in Malaysia

Just a couple of weeks after being dubbed the fastest telco in the country by French telecom network testing firm nPerf, Yes has won yet another award, this time the title for the Fastest Mobile Network in Malaysia 2022 by Ookla. The telco was given the award during the Mobile World Congress 2023 (MWC) event happening this week in Barcelona.

The award for the fastest mobile network goes to Yes after Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data analysis found the telco to have a top speed of 569.09Mbps for downloads, with upload speeds coming in at 65.58Mbps. This netted Yes a ‘Speed Score’ of 84.53, putting them ahead of the other telcos in Malaysia for download and upload speeds. That shouldn’t be too surprising of course, considering that for most of last year, they were the only telco to offer 5G until late-2022, with Yes going all in on the domestic 5G network.

“As the pioneer in offering affordable 5G services and solutions to Malaysians and our on-going mission to provide ‘Yes 5G for All’, this award is a testament to our efforts in delivering world-class products and services to our consumers. We are truly grateful to be given this recognition by Ookla.

This is the latest in a recent string of notable awards that Yes has received after the Opensignal Availability Award 2022, MCMC Star Rating Awards 2022 and SoyaCincau Awards 2022,” – Wing K. Lee, YTL Communications Chief Executive Officer

The YTL CEO also added that they were delighted to be recognised both locally and internationally, with their greatest motivation being their customers and wanting to make a modern network available for users in Malaysia. His Ookla counterpart Dough Suttles meanwhile stated that it is their pleasure to present Yes with the Fastest Mobile Network in Malaysia award, and that it’s a testament to their performance based on Ookla’s analysis of Speedtest results by consumers themselves.

Ookla’s findings echo nPerf’s own research, who also found Yes to be the leading mobile network in Malaysia for download and upload speeds. nPerf found Yes’ average download speeds reaching 125.58Mb/s for the whole of last year, miles ahead of competitors such as Unifi Mobile who came in at second place with 39.32Mb/s. The same can be said for upload speeds, with nPerf finding Yes’ average upload speeds to be around 14.41Mb/s, nearly double of U Mobile’s 8.32Mb/s upload averages in second place.
