Just days after Samsung debuted their Galaxy S23 series to the world, Vivo is bringing their own flagship smartphones to our shores with the Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro. Previously launched in China, the X90 Pro+ however is conspicuously missing from the lineup here.
Vivo X90 series Malaysia pricing and availability
The Vivo X90 and X90 Pro will be available from tomorrow onwards at all Vivo Concept Stores, authorised dealers, their official eStore as well as the Vivo official store on Shopee and Lazada. Here’s how much they’ll cost:
- Vivo X90, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM3,699
- Vivo X90 Pro, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM4,999
On top of that, Vivo are also offering customers who purchase one of these two smartphones from a Vivo Concept Store exclusive gifts worth up to RM1,300, such as a 1+1 year warranty, 1 year screen protection and a 1 year battery warranty; those who buy it on Shopee meanwhile gets a RM50 OGAWA voucher instead of the charger. You’ll also be able to get a free Vivo TWS Air worth RM179 if you get the Vivo X90, while Vivo X90 Pro buyers can get a Joyoung Electric Baking Pan worth RM399.
Vivo X90 Pro specs
Starting with the more premium device, the Vivo X90 Pro features a 6.78-inch, 2800 x 1260p AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, pushing a peak brightness of 1,300nits with support for HDR10+. The display is also capable of a 300Hz touch sampling rate and 2160Hz PWM dimming, with a 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and Smart Eye Protection for blue light control.
Under the hood, the X90 Pro comes with MediaTek’s latest and greatest Dimensity 9200 system-on-chip, which gets mated to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. There’s also an additional Vivo V2 chip, which is their own in-house developed chip for assisting with its camera. You’ll find Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13 out of the box too, though Vivo did not disclose how many years of software support they’re providing.
It’s in the camera department though that the X90 Pro shines. It packs a 50.3MP, f/1.8 main camera with Zeiss optics using the Sony IMX989 sensor, a 1-inch sensor. You’re also getting a 50MP, f/1.6 2x telephoto portrait shooter equivalent to a 50mm lens as well as a 12MP, f/2.0 ultrawide shooter. All of that gets packed into a circular camera bump on the rear that also has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass over it for additional scratch resistance. Vivo claims you’d be able to shoot night sky shots thanks to a new AI PD Extreme Night focus mode too all without a tripod. Up front meanwhile is a 32MP, f/2.45 camera for all your selfie needs.
While that camera setup is pretty impressive already, it’s a bit of a shame that the X90 Pro+ isn’t making its way here. It takes the already imposing rear camera setup and puts it up a notch, swapping out the ultrawide shooter for a 48MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera while also adding in another 64MP, f/3.5 periscope telephoto camera offering a 3.5x optical zoom.
Elsewhere, you also get a 4,870mAh battery with 120W fast charging that Vivo claims will be able to power up the device to 50% in just 8 minutes, as well as 50W wireless charging. There’s also stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IP68 dust and water resistance rating along with support for WiFi 6, NFC, 5G and Bluetooth 5.3.
Vivo also adds that the design of the X90 Pro itself was inspired by the Fibonacci spiral to get a balanced look, complete with a horizontal band on the rear just under the camera bump that they’re calling a ‘Skyline’. The rear is also covered in a vegan leather finish coloured in Legendary Black.
Vivo X90 specs
As for the Vivo X90 itself, it actually has a number of similarities with its Pro sibling. For starters, it shares the same 6.78-inch AMOLED display, the same Dimensity 9200 system-on-chip with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, along with the 32MP, f/2.5 front camera, in-display fingerprint sensor, wireless connectivity options and stereo speaker.
However, the main downgrade here is in the camera department. Unlike the X90 Pro which comes with that 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, the Vivo X90 is a little more tame, featuring a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera using a 1/1.49-inch sensor instead, along with a 12MP, f/2.0 telephoto portrait lens offering 2x optical zoom and a 12MP, f/2.0 ultrawide camera.
You also get a marginally smaller battery here, with a 4,810mAh battery that also has 120W fast charging. However, it lacks wireless charging, and the X90 also only has an IP64 dust and water resistance rating. The Vivo X90 has a glass back rather than a vegan leather finish too, available in Breeze Blue and Asteroid Black.
