There won’t be a OnePlus 11 Pro or a OnePlus 11T this year

In case you missed it, the OnePlus 11, their latest flagship smartphone, finally made its global debut last night. You can check out our review of it here, but if you were hoping for a Pro version of the OnePlus 11—maybe you wanted extra features like wireless charging and an IP rating—you might be disappointed to hear that there won’t be a OnePlus 11 Pro this year.

In fact, according to Android Authority, there won’t be a OnePlus 11T in the second half of the year either. OnePlus says that they won’t be issuing an 11T later this year as a means of ‘streamlining the flagship portfolio’. The Chinese giant however doesn’t rule out the return of the OnePlus T models in later years.

Last year’s OnePlus 10T

What is pretty much dead in the water though is a OnePlus Pro. Not only have they culled the OnePlus 11 Pro, but it seems like there won’t ever be a OnePlus Pro ever again. OnePlus has a reason behind it though; according to them, you don’t need to have a ‘Pro’ name for a device that’s already ‘pro’. Which, when you look at the OnePlus 11, is rather laughable to say the least.

The OnePlus 11 is not as ‘pro’ as you can get with a smartphone. I mean, it lacks a number of creature comforts, such as a full IP68 rating and wireless charging. These ‘pro’ grade premium features are all commonplace on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S23, Google Pixel 7 and the Apple iPhone 14—which aren’t even the ‘Pro’ models of their own lineups.

Nevertheless, OnePlus dropping the ‘Pro’ from all future models could also be seen as a sign that they’re returning to their roots. OnePlus famously brought the ‘flagship killer’ term to the mainstream, with powerful smartphones that packed all the latest hardware while still being affordable by cutting some corners, such as not having an IP rating. The OnePlus 10 Pro from last year for instance was widely panned for being just too expensive for a OnePlus device, which ended up alienating a lot of their fan base.

In any case, as for the OnePlus 11 there’s no local pricing or availability details just yet, though you can expect to know more about it by 14 February when OnePlus Malaysia launches it here. Globally, it has launched with a starting price of USD699 in the US, EUR829 in Europe and GBP729 in the UK. You can find out more about the OnePlus 11 here.
