PSA: Sharing your Touch ‘n Go RFID sticker with multiple cars can get your tag suspended

A TikTok video showing that a person found a way to share one Touch ‘n Go RFID sticker amongst more than one car has been making waves. However, sharing an RFID sticker amongst multiple cars isn’t allowed according to Touch ‘n Go, and users reported that sharing the stickers could also get their tags suspended.

In the TikTok video, which now has more than 604K views and 17K likes at the time of writing, shows a user who has stuck an RFID sticker on a plastic contraption that you can surprisingly find on Shopee. The contraption can also be moved from car to car pretty easily, and you can see that it can work with (seemingly) no problems.

In the comments section, it looks like a lot of people are interested in the idea of sharing RFID stickers between multiple cars. And while some commenters have asked if you’re actually allowed to do so, the TikTok video creator replied saying something along the lines of “if you’re able to do it, you can, right?”.

However, on Touch ‘n Go’s FAQ page, you aren’t actually allowed to share your RFID stickers with other people or cars. They also said that the RFID Tag is “unique to the registered customer and vehicle”.

In the RFID Facebook Group page, users have said that using an RFID sticker on a different car than the registered one will get you suspended. Users also explained that you can get suspended by not putting the sticker on the headlamp or windscreen. So, using the Shopee contraption—even if it’s in the registered car—could get your tag suspended as well.

I, however, couldn’t find anywhere in Touch ‘n Go’s FAQ page about if users would be suspended if their stickers are shared amongst multiple cars. But I still do not recommend that you would do so. A mismatch of number plates and RFID can be easily detected at toll plazas with Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)—even Shell RFID fuelling uses number plate recognition.

If you own multiple vehicles, you will need to individually activate each vehicle for an RFID tag. You can activate up to a maximum of 10 vehicles to a single eWallet account.
