This is the Poco F4 GT, possibly Malaysia’s most affordable Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 gaming smartphone

Poco will introduce its new Poco F4 GT this coming Tuesday, 26th April, and it’s basically a rebranded Redmi K50 Gaming that’s currently sold in China. Ahead of the global launch, serial leakster Roland Quandt has dropped high-resolution images of the new flagship gaming smartphone that runs on Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip.

The Poco F4 GT will come in three colours – Black, Silver and Poco Yellow. As a comparison, the Redmi K50 Gaming is offered in Silver, Blue, Black, and dark grey for its Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 variant.

The hardware is expected to be identical to the K50 Gaming which includes a 6.67″ Full HD+ AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. It has a screen refresh rate of 120Hz as well as a touch-sampling rate of 480Hz. As mentioned earlier, it runs on a Snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor and is mated with at least 8GB of RAM and comes with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, the rear is expected to feature a triple-camera setup which consists of a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro lens. The camera bump appears to get RGB lighting for a more gamer look. Meanwhile, the punch-hole on the front houses a 20MP selfie camera. Since this is a gaming device, the F4 GT also features tactile shoulder buttons. On top of that, it also has stereo speakers for a better audio experience.

In terms of connectivity, it will support 5G, WiFi 6, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2. As shown on the side view, the device also gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Powering the device is a 4,700mAh battery which supports 120W HyperCharge fast charging via USB-C. As confirmed by Poco’s own teaser, the phone will come with an L-angle charging cable which makes it practical to charge while the phone is in used in landscape mode.

We’ll have to wait until this Tuesday for the pricing and availability details. Since this is a Poco-branded device, the F4 GT is expected to be priced competitively against its rivals and it could be the most affordable new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered gaming smartphone in Malaysia. In China, the Redmi K50 Gaming is priced from CNY3,299 (about RM2,197) for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model, while the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant costs CNY3,899 (about RM2,597).
