During the launch of the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G and Redmi Note 11S 5G, Xiaomi Malaysia has also unveiled the Redmi 10 5G. This is said to be the first Redmi series (excluding Redmi Note lineup) with 5G connectivity and is set to be their most affordable 5G-enabled device. Looking at the spec-sheet, this seems to be a rehashed Poco M3 Pro 5G but with a couple of upgrades.
At the time of writing, Xiaomi Malaysia has yet to reveal its official pricing and local availability details. What we do know is that it comes in three colours – Graphite Grey, Chrome Silver and Aurora Green. Overall, the design looks more upmarket than the Poco device and it even gets a flat-edge design which seems to be the current trend at the moment.
Upfront, the Redmi 10 5G gets a 6.58″ Full HD+ display which supports a high refresh rate up to 90Hz. Similar to the Poco M3 Pro 5G, the screen has an Adaptive-Sync feature which can switch between 30Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz, and it also gets a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top.
Powering the device is a 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 700 which can be mated with 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The device comes with either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, which is expandable via microSD card.
For taking pictures, the rear gets two huge camera lenses which include a 50MP main shooter and a secondary 2MP depth camera. Meanwhile, the front gets a 5MP selfie camera that sits in a tiny notch.
The Redmi 10 5G also gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that doubles as a power button, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC support. There’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging via USB-C. Just like the Poco, they are including a higher-rated 22.5W charging brick in the box.
Out of the box, the Redmi 10 5G runs on MIUI 13 that’s based on Android 12. This is quite a surprise considering the higher-end Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G is released with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11.
As mentioned earlier, there are no pricing details yet for the Redmi 10 5G but we expect it to be slightly more expensive than the current Redmi 10 (4G) that was launched with a starting price of RM649. As a reference, the Poco M3 Pro 5G is priced at RM699 but you can easily get it with a hefty discount during the online mega sales on Lazada and Shopee.
