In the latest COVID-19 Vaccine Malaysia Update, we talk about Malaysia hitting its 40% adult population target in every state and did the US FDA really gave full approval to the Pfizer vaccine which is also known as Comirnaty. As usual, we will also answer a couple of highlighted questions from the previous video.
As of 31st August 2021, Malaysia has administered over 34.7 million doses so far with nearly 20 million individuals have gotten at least one shot. Sabah, which had the lowest vaccination rate has managed to fully vaccinate 40% of its adult population by Merdeka Day. To accelerate vaccination in the state, especially in rural areas, Sabah has received its first batch of CanSino vaccines which requires just one injection instead of two.
After the US FDA had given its full approval for the Pfizer vaccine, there is speculation that the approval is given to a different type of vaccine. This has been debunked as not true as the full approval is given to the same vaccine that was used during the Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA). It is stated clearly on the US FDA announcement that Comirnaty has the same formulation as the EUA vaccine and is administered as a series of two doses, three weeks apart.
