Xiaomi Mi 11: 55W GaN Charger and Google Mobile Services are included for global market

Xiaomi has officially has announced the Mi 11 for the international market after it was launched in China last December. This is the world’s first flagship smartphone with a Snapdragon 888 processor and it still comes with a charger in the box.

Pricing and availability

The Xiaomi Mi 11 is officially priced as follows:

8GB RAM + 128GB storage – EUR 749 (about RM3,662)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage – EUR 799 (about about RM3,907)

According to Xiaomi, the device will be released globally starting this month, however, there are no details yet for Malaysia at the time of writing. Both Lazada and Shopee are listed as Mi 11 sales channels during the live stream event.

For greater peace of mind, Xiaomi is also providing a longer 2-year warranty plus 1-year free screen repair protection for the Mi 11. Xiaomi Malaysia will share more details closer to the local launch. Take note that European pricing is typically more expensive than Malaysia so expect it to be priced lower when it comes to our shores.

Hardware

The Xiaomi Mi 11 features a 6.81″ “quad-curve” AMOLED display that boasts a high WQHD+ (3200×1440 pixels) resolution, 1500 nits brightness and 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio. In addition, it also boasts a Super resolution feature that can bump up a low resolution 480p image to 1440p and HDR10+ plus 10-bit colour support.

For a smoother visual and gaming experience, the screen also pushes a high 120Hz refresh rate and an industry leading 480Hz touch sampling rate.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 is awarded the best smartphone display title by DisplayMate and it sets 13 new DisplayMate Records. This include highest peak display brightness, highest contrast ratio, highest native colour gamut and highest full screen brightness for OLED smartphones.

Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line 5nm Snapdragon 888 processor with 5G. It’s paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a choice of 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage which isn’t expandable.

For imaging, the Mi 11 sports a triple-camera setup that consists of a 108MP f/1.85 main camera that has a large 1/1.33″ sensor, 7P lens and optical image stabilisation. There’s also a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP telemacro shooter which lets you get up to close at 3cm. For selfies, it features a 20MP front camera that sits in a punch-hole on the top-left corner.

Another interesting feature is its in-display fingerprint sensor. Apart from allowing you to unlock your device instantly, the sensor also doubles as a heart-rate sensor.

Similar to the Mi 10 series, Xiaomi has also retained a pair of stereo speakers on the Mi 11 that are enhanced by Harman Kardon. Xiaomi has added a nice touch by featuring a sound wave grill design for the bottom speaker. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, but the device allows you to pair two headphones or speakers at the same time.

The Mi 11 is equipped with a large 4,600mAh battery that supports 55W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. A full charge takes 45 minutes when fast charged via USB-C and up to 53 minutes with a compatible fast wireless charger.

Unlike the China market, Xiaomi will include a 55W GaN fast charger in the box. Also included is an antibacterial screen protector and case which are designed to eliminate up to 99% of bacteria. Out of the box, the device runs on MIUI 12 that’s based on Android 10.

Google Mobile Services still included

Interestingly, Xiaomi had not mentioned anything about its status of Google Mobile Services (GMS). Prior to the launch, Xiaomi had tweeted on 28th January that the Mi 11 will come with Google apps and Google Play Protect.

Xiaomi Malaysia’s PR team has assured that the GMS issue is only limited to China and it doesn’t affect global markets. This means Malaysian users will be able to get Google apps and services along with Google Play Store pre-installed on the Mi 11.
